Water Is A Hot Commodity

Water is one of the most important resources that we have on earth. Water is something that every living being needs in order to survive and thrive in life. It is more important than food in the scope of survival. It is necessary for all of us to have a steady supply of clean drinking water, which can be difficult.

More and more, we are seeing droughts all over the world, from South Africa to Southern California. It is a scary idea to think that we may run out of water or to wonder where our clean water will come from. With these types of issues coming to the surface, it is important that we all do our part to conserve. There are so many different ways that we can conserve water.

  1. Turning off the tap is a good place to start. Some of us have a tendency to let the water run when we are doing dishes, washing our hands, or brushing our teeth, which can waste a lot of water. Just one drip a second all day long can waste dozens of litres a day, so imagine if we let the water run during all these different times in a day. We can conserve a lot of water by just turning off the tap while we brush or by filling the sink just once when we wash the dishes.
  2. Power plants are the places that supply our electricity and they require a lot of water to cool down their huge machinery. If we take the time to conserve electricity, we can conserve water as well. Being vigilant about all of the energy that we use can save water. Turning off lights and unplugging things that are not in use can result in a saving of a lot of water over the course of time.
  3. Low use fixtures are also a great way to conserve water. Faucets, toilets, and shower heads require a lot of water to run. If people install low use fixtures, which are fixtures that use the minimum amount of water necessary, they can save gallons of water a day. Over the course of a year, that will result in a lot of clean and safe drinking water.

These are just a few of the simple things that people can do to conserve water. Some people are taking it to another level to try and conserve precious water. They are installing rainwater tanks at their homes for a variety of uses. Depending on where they are going to put the tank and what they are going to use it for, there is a wide range of water tank design ideas to choose from.

People are using the rainwater they collect for a wide variety of different things.

  1. More and more people are planting gardens at their home in order to cut down on the length of their grocery bill or because it has been a lifelong hobby. They are using the rainwater they collect to make sure that their gardens are well maintained.
  2. They are also using it to wash their cars so that they are not wasting clean drinking water for such a task. We all like to have a clean car, but it is the type of bath that requires a lot of water.
  3. During times of serious drought, this water can also be used to flush the toilets in a person’s home. It may not be the easiest of tasks, but when it is necessary it can be something that can save a lot of water use.

We may think that there is an endless supply of water because 71% of the earth surface is water. There may be a lot of water, but there is not an endless supply of clean drinking water. There are places all over the world where people do not have access to steady supplies of clean drinking water. We all have to do our part.
